Must Do List For a Flooded House

Water damage can happen in many ways.  Ways such as toilet overflow, sink overflow, dishwasher leak, washing machine overflow, or from a busted pipe.You don’t expect it to happen, but if it does, you have to take some quick steps to stop any more damage.Of course you will want to call a water damage service company, but prior to them getting there, do these critical steps.  This is coming from years of experience as a water damage San Diego company.

First, you want to prevent the possiblity of any electrocution.You need to turn off the power in the flooded areas.  The water damage service company should be able to walk you through how to do that.

Second, you will want to stop any more water.  You do this by shutting off the water source of the flooding.

Third, you have to protect your furnishings from any more damage.Leaving any furnishings in water will turn something that can easily repaired into a costly item that needs to be replaced.Get them out of the flooded area as soon as you can.

Those are the steps you want to do as soon as possible before you call any water damage company.  But once you have done those things and have called a good company to do the water damage cleanup, here are a few more things you should do while waiting.

You want to get rid of as much water as possible by using a large towel or mopping to take up as much water as you can.  Remember, the longer any wall or furniture or flooring is exposed to water, the greater the damage can be including mold damage.

Next, you will want to wipe off any moisture from the  furniture.Once again what you are trying to do is reduce as much damage as you can

Also you will want to remove any wet area rugs, or anything else on the floor that is in the effected area.

Finally, closet door or dresser drawers that you have the ability to open to allow air cirulation you want to do.

Doing these things will allow you to minimize as much damage as possible prior to calling the water damage repair company.This will reduce the costs and save you money in the long run.
