Organize Clutter Around Your House

Many people want to have an organized home without the clutter but they do not know how to go about getting rid of the clutter so it is frustrating. When a house gets to the point that it has too much clutter you end up spending so much time trying to de-clutter that you don’t get to the dusting or vacuuming. One is usually too tired to keep cleaning after all the time is spent on clearing away the clutter. But the good news is there are things you can do to control and organize clutter BEFORE it becomes overwhelming.

Stacks of paper are the most common thing that clutters people’s homes. Some of the stacks of paper could include piles of children’s homework, newspapers, work papers, and the mail is usually piled up too. There are some helpful tips on what you can do to organize yourself so you won’t have lots of stacks of papers all around the house.

The mail and what to do with it is our first subject. Don’t let the mail pile up be sure to go through it each day and be sure to throw out the junk mail. The junk mail gets thrown in the trash before going back into the house for some people. Next put the bills that need to be paid in a “to do” file. Some have a “to do” basket that is hung on the wall near the main phone or computer or they have a file folder in a desk or kitchen drawer. Then with the other papers you feel are important to keep you need to file them away right then and there and not wait for later. Later NEVER seems to come and soon it becomes clutter.

You can do the same thing if you bring home papers from work. File all your “to do’s” in one spot (not on the counter) and file away your important papers.

Some people put a recycle bin under their kitchen sink or counter beside their trash can so they can place their newspaper in the proper bin after reading. After reading the newspaper dispose of it in the proper bin. Then at the same time you can take out the garbage and the recyclable newspaper bins.

It is so easy for proud parents to get caught up in keeping every piece of paper their child brings homes from school. Those school papers soon turn into large piles that turn into clutter. It is a challenging to try to get rid of the clutter when you want to keep all your child’s school papers for a memory book.If you have a closet and cabinet where you can put a box or storage container then this dilemma can be solved quite easily. Then you can go through the kids schoolwork and determine which papers you really want to keep and put it in the bin. Instead of storing the large artwork and science projects you could take pictures of them and then throw them away. You can occasionally remove the papers from the closet and put them in a permanent place such as a larger box that can be kept in an attic or basement or even under a bed. This way you can organize clutter and still keep those precious memories that you and your child can look through and remember one day.

In your quest to organize clutter that aren’t papers around your house you must get in the habit of asking yourself “Is this an item that I will use again?Honesty is a MUST.  A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t used it or needed it in a year you most likely are not going to use it again so, throw it away! You can also sell or give away all the items that you haven’t used in a long while and items you don’t need any longer. If you’re afraid to get rid of an itme you think you might use later then store it for six months to see and if you do not use it in that time frame get rid of it because you probably never will use it.

For your seasonal items purchase some large storage containers that can be stacked on top of each other and put them in an attic, basement, or garage. Be sure to mark your storage bins so you know what each container holds. It can be very frustrating to hunt for the decorations you need by opening up EVERY bin. Mark each container so you will know what is in each storage bin and will be able to find it easily at a later date. Remember to throw away any items you find that are broken, damaged, or stained.

It may take some time to organize clutter around your house at first, but once you have set up a system and routine it will so easy to keep up the things that come into your home. Now enjoy your clutter-free environment!
